Elevate Our Schools
I’m running for Buena Vista school board because I believe every child in our community deserves an excellent education that supports their growth and potential. As an educator and a parent, I’ve seen firsthand how strong schools can elevate entire communities. I want to bring my experience and perspective to help shape policies that prioritize student well-being, academic excellence, and open communication. I’m committed to working collaboratively to ensure our schools are places where all students can thrive.

About Me.
My name is Laura Hansen, and I’m running for a seat on the Buena Vista School Board. I believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive in a strong, supportive school community. As a lifelong educator and the mother of four-year-old twins, I’ve seen the power of public education to shape lives—and I know how important it is that we get it right.
Currently, I work as an assistant preschool teacher at Busy Bees Preschool, where I help young children grow, explore, and thrive in a nurturing, creative environment. That reminder of why education matters inspires everything I do. Over the past decade, I’ve taught and led in public, private, and international schools—from early childhood through high school. I’ve worked in classrooms across Colorado and as a middle school coordinator in Sierra Leone, where I trained teachers, built curriculum from limited resources, and saw firsthand how knowledge and creativity can go hand in hand.
I hold a Master’s in Educational Psychology and an Educational Administration Certificate from the University of Denver. I’m licensed in Secondary English, Social Studies, and Elementary Education here in Colorado.
I believe strong schools are built on collaboration, transparency, and respect for every student’s potential. On the school board, I’ll advocate for students, support teachers with the tools they need to succeed, and ensure families are heard. That means elevating learning by expanding access to hands-on, real-world opportunities—like project-based learning in the outdoors. It means educating with purpose by supporting policies that meet the needs of all learners. And it means empowering students, families, and teachers by giving them voice, agency, and the confidence to lead.
This is personal for me—as a parent, a teacher, and a neighbor. I’m ready to listen, to serve, and to help build the future our kids deserve. I'm running to help shape policies that elevate learning, educate with purpose, and empower every child to thrive. As a parent with young children just beginning their educational journey, I’m deeply invested in the future of our district.
